A semantic service operation describes the service dependencies between the calling and offering Service Domains in common business language. It combines a description of the key business information exchanged and any associated actions that are initiated (and if appropriate the result). Perhaps as important is what the service operation does not specify: the choreography of the exchange in terms of the likely dialogue and anything more than very high level scheduling/timing considerations. The service operation is typically mapped against the underlying systems readable ‘messages’ that support the exchange.
