Can I create new Service Domains?

The goal of the BIAN Working Groups is to ratify and refine existing Service Domain specifications and identify any that may be missing in the Service Landscape. The process by which new Service Domains are identified and added to the model or major changes are made to existing Service Domains follows a well structured and formal approach to ensure the integrity of the model. BIAN Service Domain specifications describe the mainstream capabilities and it is likely that this specification may need to be extended/specialized to reflect some properties of the target enterprise. In aligning the BIAN Service Domains to an enterprise there are specific cases where a Service Domain will be duplicated and specialized or where multiple Service Domains may be combined. It is important that such changes are made to realign the scope of the Service Domain to retain its ‘elemental’ property and not compromise its original business role/purpose.
